‘Andrey Rublev can win a Grand Slam very soon,’ says ATP veteran

Andrey Rublev has been tipped to win a Grand Slam ‘very soon’ by French veteran Richard Gasquet, who will face the in-form Russian in Doha.

Rublev was one of the breakout stars of 2020 as he powered his way into the top ten, won a Tour-leading number of titles, and made his debut at the ATP Finals.

He has carried that form into the new season too, winning the ATP Cup as part of Team Russia, reaching the last eight of the Australian Open, and winning Rotterdam last week.

That was Rublev’s fourth ATP 500 title in a row, and he has won every one of the last seven finals he has played.

“He is one of the best players in the world,” Gasquet said. “He can win a Grand slam very soon.

“He won many many tournaments, so it’s been great of course.

“He won four or five ATP 500s so I know it will be tough for me but I have nothing to lose and I am sure I can do a great match and try to play the best I can.”

While Andrey Rublev has impressed greatly, his Grand Slam record does need improvement.

He has reached four quarterfinals, but he is yet to win a single set in any of them, never mind a match.
