Andrey Rublev says it is 'amazing' to match the 21 successive wins in ATP 500 tournaments that Andy Murray once achieved.
The Russian beat Emil Ruusuvuori on Tuesday to equal Murray's achievement, and he will get the chance to better it against Taylor Fritz or Nikoloz Basilashvili.
It means that now only Roger Federer (28) has achieved a more impressive winning streak at this level.
“It’s amazing to do something that Andy Murray did, and we’ll see what’s going to happen next,” Rublev said.
“I need to focus on my game, on the things that I need to improve.
“I cannot control if I’m going to win the next match or not, but I can give my best and see.
Rublev equalled Murray's tally with an impressive 6-4, 6-4 success, and he thinks it was the best he has ever produced in Dubai.
“I think [today] I played my best match here," Rublev said.
“[Ruusuvuori] is a young guy who has huge talent. I’m happy I’m able to win one more match here in Dubai.”
Rublev went into the tournament saying he did not feel confident due to the conditions, although he is the second seed behind US Open champion Dominic Thiem.
