Andy Murray believes he can 'play better from here' after winning Wimbledon opener

Andy Murray on his Centre Court win: "I'm getting on a bit so I don't know how many more opportunities I'll get to play on this court, so I want to make the most of every time I get to come out here."

Andy Murray says he 'hopes to play better' as he progresses at Wimbledon despite a fine first round win.

Murray overcame Jack Duckworth and a slow start on Centre court, but slowly took control of the match and was a worthy 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 winner.

It was Murray's first match since sustaining an abdominal injury in the final of Stuttgart, and there were few signs of any discomfort in the former world number one's movement.

"I thought I did well to rebound after the first set," Murray said.

"He likes playing on the grass. He's come back from a hip surgery himself in January and was playing well.

"Once I started to find my returns I felt comfortable but I did well to get through it.

"It's amazing to be back out here again with a full crowd after the last few years. It's an amazing atmosphere.

"There's always nerves and pressure and butterflies and stress before the first match. It was a longer build-up for me than usual because of the injury I had from Stuttgart.

"It was great to get out here, get a win under my belt and hopefully I'll play better from here on."

Andy Murray will face the huge serving of giant American John Isner next, and there is every chance it will be on Centre Court.

That alone is something Murray is looking forward to, with him acutely aware that he cannot take his career for granted.

"Obviously I'm getting on a bit now so I don't know how many more opportunities I'll get to play on this court so I want to make the most of every time I get to come out here," he said.

"Hopefully I'll get another match on here in a couple of days."
