Ashleigh Barty has claimed her third title of the season in Stuttgart, coming back from a set down to beat Aryna Sabalenka.
Barty, who turned 25 on Saturday, produced a dynamic end to the match winning 12 out of the last 15 games to seal the victory 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The world number one has already bagged the Yarra Valley Classic title in Melbourne and the Miami Open this year, however the Stuttgart title is only her second on clay, the last being the 2019 French Open.
Barty chose to take 11 months off the Tour during the coronavirus pandemic, but since returning she has won 20 out of 23 matches and has underlined her place at the top, being in pole position for the end of year Finals in Singapore.
After the match, the Australian made it clear this is just the start for her season ahead.
“To my team both at home and Ty (Craig Tyzzer) who is here with me, it’s been an incredible week and start for us in what will be a long journey,” Barty said.
“I’m enjoying every minute and I’m very grateful to be doing what I love here in Stuttgart.”
Opponent Sabalenka suffered an injury in the latter stage of the match, which required a medical time out, and the Belarussian had some tears during one of the changeovers.
“Congratulations Aryna on a great week,” said Barty.
“I know it’s not the way you would like to finish but get healthy and get well (soon). You will be fit in no time and ready to go again,” Barty concluded.
