The ATP have issued a statement regarding the abuse allegations surrounding Alexander Zverev, saying they will not intervene until a conviction.
A former girlfriend of the German has given an interview to Racquet Magazine alleging she was the victim of both mental and physical abuse in the relationship, although she says she will not be pursuing any criminal charges.
Zverev has strenuously denied the accusations on more than one occasion, but many fans have been calling for the ATP to take the lead and investigate it for the good of tennis’ image.
They, though, say they can’t, and won’t, be getting involved at this time.
“The ATP fully condemns any form of violence or abuse,” they said in a statement.
“We expect all members of the Tour to do the same, and to refrain from any conduct that is violent, abusive, or puts others at risk.
“In circumstances where allegations of violence or abuse are made against any member of the Tour, legal authorities investigate and due process is applied, we then review the outcome and decide the appropriate course of action.
“Otherwise, we are unable to comment further on specific allegations.”
