Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli has called for the ATP to take action against Benoit Paire after his latest disgrace.
Paire has made little secret of his desire to take first-round money and lose due to his frustrations at life inside COVID bubbles.
He deliberately tanked in Argentina, serving a succession of double-faults in the final game, then lost in the first round in Mexico too.
After that loss he used his Instagram account to say losing in the first round of events and getting out of the bio-secure bubbles was now his 'priority,' adding that reduced prize money did not make it worth the effort to win matches.
However, he has been allowed to keep entering tournaments, and actually celebrated when losing his Miami Masters opener to Lorenzo Musetti this week.
And now, according to Bartoli, the time has come for sanctions, telling Tennis Majors: “He’s damaging the game the way he behaves.
"When you have the youth and the young generation looking at that and they think it’s okay to behave like this, this is where my problem starts.
“So I think the ATP should have a sense of responsibility saying that we can’t display tennis that way, and therefore they should take some actions.”
