‘I am perfectly healthy and really looking forward to next season,’ says Bianca Andreescu

Bianca Andreescu says she is doing ‘really well’ and will be back on the WTA Tour next year after regaining her fitness.

The Canadian won the US Open last year aged just 19, but then injured her knee at the WTA Finals two months later.

She has subsequently gone on to miss the whole of 2020 with a variety of fitness problems, but she has assured fans that she is on the verge of returning.

“I’m doing really well,” Andreescu told Tennis Majors. “I’m perfectly healthy. I’m training hard [and] I’m really looking forward to 2021.”

“The virus pushed me back, and some little personal things here and there, but right now I’m good.”

Despite the injury concerns, Andreescu believes the year away from the court may have benefitted her by giving her some breathing room to adjust to her new-found status as one of the most popular women on the WTA Tour.

“I really wanted to take time to build everything in my life, and I think this time off helped me do that,” she explained.
