Borna Coric undergoes shoulder surgery, explaining: 'A more permanent solution was needed'

Borna Coric looks on in Rotterdam

Borna Coric has revealed he faces a further spell on the sidelines after he underwent shoulder surgery.

The Croatian has not played since Rotterdam in March, where he reached the semi-finals.

That semi-final loss was just the ninth match he has played this year, and he has now explained the extent of his problems, admitting the time has come for a 'permanent solution.'

"I am currently in New York as I had surgery on my right shoulder yesterday," Coric said on Instagram.

"I have been dealing with shoulder pain for some time now and despite trying a whole range of recovery techniques it was clear a more permanent solution was needed.

"The operation went extremely well. I am very thankful to the HSS Sports Medicine Institute team and especially Dr David Altchek.

"Now it is time to recover and work hard to be back on court soon. Thank you for all the support as always."

The 24-year-old is currently the world number 30 and he endured a tough Australian Open this year, where he lost in the second round to MacKenzie MacDonald.
