Carlos Alcaraz believes Wimbledon foe Jannik Sinner will become a major rival

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner gave us a brilliant look at the future of tennis at Wimbledon, and the Spaniard thinks the rivalry could grow into a very special one.

Carlos Alcaraz says he hopes he and Jannik Sinner merely wrote the first chapter of a storied rivalry at Wimbledon.

The two youngsters played out a memorable contest in the fourth round on Centre Court on Sunday, with Sinner winning it after four sets of outstanding tennis.

It was particularly fitting as the match took place on the day of a parade of champions on Centre Court, so on the day Wimbledon celebrated its glorious past, the top young players on the ATP Tour today gave us an enticing look at the future.

When asked if he and Sinner were the future of men's tennis and can build a great rivalry, Alcaraz said: "I hope so.

"I'm going to try to be one of the best tennis players in the world for many years.

"Obviously Jannik is one of the best tennis players in the world as well. For sure he's going to be in the top for many years.

"I hope to have good rivalry with him. We hope to fight for the best tournaments in the world and the best moment in the world together.

Sinner, meanwhile, was a lot more cautious in his predictions.

He and Carlos Alcaraz are the top youngsters in the ATP at the moment, but the Italian sees no guarantees about either of their futures.

"I think what we showed today, it's a great level of tennis, great attitude from both of us," Sinner said.

"Hopefully this is going to be the case. But we never know. There are still so many other players who are playing incredible tennis.

"For sure we are the two youngest at the moment, so let's see. I don't know in the future what's going to happen.

"Yeah, I think it's just great for tennis to have also some new names, new players."
