Rafael Nadal has described Carlos Alcaraz as an 'amazing player' ahead of a potential match-up at the Madrid Masters this week.
Alcaraz, 17, is already being hailed as the 'new Rafael Nadal' in some quarters, with Alexander Zverev saying the two were very similar after facing the youngster in Acapulco earlier this year.
Nadal is also a fan, and he believes it is just a matter of time before his compatriot establishes himself at the top.
“Carlos Alcaraz is an amazing player,” Nadal told ATPTour.com.
“Today he already has an amazing level of tennis. Probably he will be one of the best players in the world soon.”
Alcaraz will need to come through his first round match with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino on Monday if he is to get a dream match against Nadal in Madrid.
Nadal, though, says from his point of view he just needs to focus on his own preparations no matter who is put in front of him.
“It will be a big challenge for me and hopefully for him too.” Nadal continued. “So let’s see.
"I don’t know, I [will] just focus and try to be ready, to have the right preparation and to be playing well for the beginning of the tournament so then let’s see.”
