In Daily Drops today, Venus Williams' Wimbledon return is confirmed, Stan Wawrinka is angry with himself, and Coco Gauff is starting to sound like a seasoned pro.

Venus Williams Wimbledon return

It had looked for all the world like we would not be seeing Venus Williams playing at Wimbledon this year, but thankfully that has changed.

We all remember the Serena Williams and Andy Murray mixed doubles partnership in 2019, and now the other siblings have decided to get together.

Venus Williams will team up with Jamie Murray in the mixed doubles, for which they have received a wild card.

Coco-beware...

Goco Gauff burst onto the tennis scene when she beat Venus Williams as a 15-year-old at Wimbledon.

She is one of the favourites to win majors nowadays having reached the final of the French Open earlier this year.

After surviving an early scare to advance into the second round of Wimbledon, she admits that Paris experience is helping her deal with setbacks.

"It definitely helped me a lot," Gauff said. "The first rounds are always tough for me because I feel like it's the most nerve-wracking of any match.

"With that experience, in the first set I was kind of freaking out a bit but then I was like 'the worst thing that could happen is that I lose, it's not the end of the world' so that's why I started to play a little bit better."

Stan the disappointed man

Wimbledon is the only major that Stan Wawrinka needs to complete the career slam, but it doesn't look like it will ever happen for him.

Wawrinka has dropped outside of the world's top 250 after injury and was at Wimbledon under a wild card.

He couldn't get past the first round, through, losing to Jannik Sinner 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

“I’m disappointed with the way I was playing today, with the level I got," Wawrinka said.

"I think I have been pushing myself way better during practice. I was expecting more, and I’m for sure disappointed with the loss.

"There are some positives. Right now I’m more disappointed than happy with what happened.

“I could have done much more. I was really frustrated in the match to see the level I was producing today.”
