‘Let’s see what people say,’ says Daniil Medvedev as he explains new look

World number two Daniil Medvedev says he will probably ditch his new look as soon as the Miami Open is over, but he is curious for now.

Medvedev was in completely dominant mood as he beat Lu Yen-hsun 6-2, 6-2 in just 57 minutes on Friday.

Whilst that was not surprising, Medvedev taking to court with a new moustache certainly was, although fans are unlikely to get the chance too get used to it.

“Last year in the beginning of the year I was doing a photo shoot and they were shaving me for the photo shoot, and they just left the moustache for a few minutes,” Medvedev told reporters

“I was, like, ‘it’s not too bad’. It was a little bit different because they had special shavers and stuff. So I think it was looking better.

“Since that time I always thought, ‘okay, one day I’m just going to do it for fun for one tournament or something like this’.

“So probably after Miami I’m going to shave it off, but for this tournament it’s going to be like this and let’s see what people say.”

On the match, Daniil Medvedev said: “It was not easy to play today with the windy conditions.

“I am happy that I managed to keep my nerve, play solid and not make so many mistakes.

“Everything worked well and I am looking forward to the next round.”
