Roberto Bautista Agut 'happy and proud' after downing Daniil Medvedev in Miami

Roberto Bautista Agut celebrates after beating Daniil Medvedev

Roberto Bautista Agut once again proved he is someone no top player wants to face after beating Daniil Medvedev at the Miami Masters.

The Spaniard, the world number 11 extended his head-to-head to 3-0 against top seed Medvedev with a 6-4, 6-2 win in just an hour and a half.

Medvedev's exit means there will be a first-time Masters champion crowned in Miami this week, and Bautista Agut will fancy his chances as much as anyone.

“I want to give Daniil Medvedev all the credit, I know he is one of the best players in the world,” Bautista Agut said.

“He’s been winning a lot of matches, he’s No. 2 in the world, so I’m very happy and proud about how I played today. I think I showed a great level on the court.”

Bautista Agut will now face Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, with him looking to gain some revenge after losing their clash in Dubai last month.

“Jannik is playing great. I have to say he will be one of the best players in the world," Bautista Agut said.

“It was a very tough match in Dubai, and it was a very tight score.

“He’s playing great, he’s very solid and he has very good strokes. I think I’ll have to play another good match like tonight.

"I want to enjoy another good match and be happy about playing in the semi-finals.”
