‘I can compete with anyone,’ says Denis Shapovalov as he predicts major breakthrough

Denis Shapovalov says he believes he is on the verge of a major breakthrough next season, as he can now ‘compete with anyone.’

The Canadian briefly shone brightly on the ATP Tour this year, impressing at the US Open and breaking into the top ten for the first time in his career.

He wasn’t able to keep on going and force his way into the ATP Finals picture, although he does believe such a breakthrough is now very close.

“I feel like I have been playing some really good tennis [this year],” Shapovalov told the ATP website.

“I am really happy with the way the season has went… I think I played really well throughout the season and I am really happy with where my game is.

”I feel like I have definitely improved and I feel like my level is with these [top] guys.

“If I am not able to reach Top 10 again this season, I will definitely try to go for it next season.

“The important thing is, I feel like my level is there with these guys and I am able to compete with anyone.”
