Dominic Thiem says he is still struggling to process his US Open success and that is the root of his current struggles.
Thiem threw away a two-set lead in the French Open first round on Sunday to make a surprise exit from the tournament.
It was the latest chapter in a dreadful 2021 for the Austrian, with him struggling in every tournament he has played with the exception of Madrid, where he was a semi-finalist.
He, though, believes that he can trace his problems back to that maiden Grand Slam win in New York, and he is still finding it hard to fully work out how to refocus himself.
“It’s amazing to reach such a big goal but at the same time something is different after,” Thiem said.

“As I said before the start of the tournament, it’s a big learning process and despite the loss that hurts so much I hope I can bounce back stronger than before.
“But, right now, I don’t know when that moment is coming.”
