‘Dominic Thiem inspires me a lot’ – reveals Roland Garros semi-finalist

Dominic Thiem is an inspiration, a workaholic and a nice guy says Roland Garros semi-finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Greek has made it to his first French Open semi-final in a tough draw, seeing off both 18th seed Dimitrov in the fourth round, and 13th seed Rublev in the quarterfinal.

Tsitsipas will face current World number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-final with even the Serbian commenting that Tsitsipas ‘is playing the best tennis of his life.’

But its another player who is inspiring the current ATP Finals Champion to push himself further and achieve only his second ever semi-final Grand Slam place.

Watching Dominic Thiem lift the US trophy last month, and making two successive Roland Garros finals in 2018 and 2019 has clearly struck a chord with Tsitsipas.

“I’m happy to be playing well enough, also to be part of something so special. Not Next Gen anymore. We are all young. I guess you can call it that way.

“Dominic (Thiem) inspires me a lot. What Dominic has achieved is amazing. Being able to have back-to-back finals here at the French is truly inspiring.

“Dominic is someone that makes me understand the game and makes me want to push even further to reach what he has reached.

“He’s a nice guy off the court. Big workaholic on the court. He has a very balanced and he’s a very passionate person in every aspect. We’re good friends.”
