‘I was foolish and ignorant’ – Sacked radio host apologises over racist Serena Williams slur

Radio host Rob Lederman has issued an apology after he was sacked for racist remarks about Serena Williams.

Lederman was a sports broadcaster on US station 97 Rock, but he was removed after referencing Serena Williams and actress Halle Berry in a conversation about toast.

“I would never go to a Serena Williams level,” he said. “But I’m very comfortable with a Halle Berry level.”

However, he has now apologised for what he has described as ‘foolish and ignorant’ and said he hopes to learn from the experience.

“I want to sincerely apologize for hurting people with my foolish and ignorant comments yesterday,” he announced.

“After listening to what I said, and how it must have sounded to others, I was horrified. I 100 percent understand why people are justifiably angry.

“I made a mistake and it’s hard to look myself in the mirror, but I want to acknowledge it. I apologise from the deepest depths of who I am.

“I ask for your forgiveness, and I pledge to learn, to do better and increase my sensibility and understanding. I want this to be the start of a learning process so we as a community can become better.”
