‘I don’t like people taking the p**s out of me!’ – Kiki Bertens accused of feigning injury in epic contest

Sara Erani has vented her fury at Kiki Bertens, accusing the number five seed of feigning injury to ‘take the p**s’ out of her.

Erani and Bertens played out a dramatic contest at Roland Garros on Wednesday, which the latter eventually won 7-6, 3-6, 9-7 in over three hours.

Bertens left the court on a wheelchair crying in agony with cramp, while Erani had to resort to underarm serves at one point after her ball-toss had failed her to such an extent the umpire had to warn her about it.

However, perhaps the real story was the bad blood between the two.

“I don’t know how to say this in English, but I don’t like people taking the piss out of me,” Sara Errani told reporters afterwards.

“She [Bertens] played a great match. However, in the third set she seemed injured and a minute later she was running around like she had never done throughout the match.

“She left the court on a wheelchair, but now she’s sitting at the restaurant and she’s completely fine.

“I don’t like this sort of behaviour. It’s her decision if she wants to play like that, but it annoys me, especially because afterwards I’m the one who’s called out for being unsportsmanlike.

“Maybe she has a magic potion, because she seemed like she was struggling for an hour, and then started running as if she were absolutely fine.”

Kiki Bertens will play Kateřina Siniakova in the third round on Friday – injury permitting.
