'Jannik Sinner has everything to be a world number one,' says Toni Nadal ahead of Rafa clash

Jannik Sinner - worrying Alexander Zverev

Toni Nadal believes Italian teenager Jannik Sinner 'has everything to be world number one' ahead of his clash with nephew Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros.

Sinner has been a revelation over the last 12 months, winning the NextGen finals and then making himself the bane of top ten players this season.

This season the 19-year-old has beaten David Goffin (then ranked 10) in Rotterdam, Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rome, and Alexander Zverev at the French Open.

It has been an incredibly impressive start to his career, and Toni Nadal, who previously coached Rafael Nadal, has declared himself on of his admirers.

“He has everything to become one of the best players of the next generation,” Toni Nadal told AFP of Sinner. “He is for sure a candidate for world number one.

“It will be difficult for Rafael, but he has the qualities to win.

“On Sunday, against Alexander Zverev, Sinner was on top the whole match. Zverev didn’t play at a very high level, but Jannik Sinner is a very good player.”
