Dan Evans said that Lorenzo Musetti ’embarrassed’ himself by the way he spoke about him following their match last week.
The pair met on court for the first time at the Sardegna Open, with Musetti claiming a 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 win.
After the match things escalated though, with Musetti telling the press of British number one Evans: “There are respectful experienced players on the pitch.
“Others, like Dan Evans, they try to use my youth to shoot (win) matches.
“But it’s all experience for me. Evans disrespected me. I don’t want to be treated like a young man.”
Evans, though, has now hit back at the exciting Italian, telling him that he needs to look at himself more instead of criticising others.
“Young Musetti should get certain manners on him,” Evans said after he beat Novak Djokovic in Monte-Carlo.
“How he spoke last week was embarrassing. Let’s not talk about Musetti in my press conference.
“Last week he said some things in the Italian press about me that were disrespectful.
“If he apologizes, I will answer. He’s a good tennis player, but he’s got no manners.”
Evans will play his first Masters-level semi-final when he takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte-Carlo on Saturday.
