Novak Djokovic tipped ‘Italian Hammer’ Matteo Berrettini for a big future after he denied him a maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
Berrettini gave a fine account of himself on Centre Court, winning the first set before being ultimately out-classed by Djokovic, as so many have been before him.
However, the Italian certainly had his moments in an absorbing final, and Djokovic expects more to come from Berrettini once his experience grows.
“It was more than a battle,” Djokovic expressed as he clutched his sixth Wimbledon trophy after the match.
“I would first like to extend a congratulations to Matteo, his family, his team for a fantastic tournament.

“Tough match today, obviously I know it’s not the best feeling losing in the final but, I’m sure there is a great career ahead of you, and as he said it’s just the beginning.
“I truly believe in that, he’s got incredible game, very powerful, true hammer, Italian hammer.”
As a result of reaching the final, Berrettini will climb to a career-high ranking of 8th on Monday.
