Nick Kyrgios has found an unlikely ally in Boris Becker after his eye-catching Australian Open performance.
Kyrgios and Becker have been at loggerheads before, with the the pair often clashing over social media.
An ugly exchange erupted between the two last summer following Kyrgios’ criticism of Alexander Zverev for breaking coronavirus protocols after the Adria Tour.
Becker responded by calling Kyrgios ‘a rat,’ with the Australian telling the Grand Slam legend he was ‘a doughnut.’
However, Becker has put those arguments to one side to pay tribute to Kyrgios.
“Nick Kyrgios and I have had our differences but I have to say I was impressed with on-court attitude at this tournament,” Becker told the Mail
“His five-setter with Dominic Thiem was among the matches of the fortnight.
“I have always thought that he should win Wimbledon at least once with the huge talent at his disposal.
“With that serve and his quick game there is so much that he could achieve.
“Whether he does that is going to be down to one person – Nick himself.”
Kyrgios was eliminated by Thiem in the third round, and he is yet to commit to returning to the ATP Tour this year after missing nearly all of 2020 due to coronavirus concerns.
