Bianca Andreescu says the injury that forced her out of the Miami Open final is ‘not serious,’ although it will keep her out of the Billie Jean King Cup.
Andreescu has had a terrible time with injuries since winning the US Open 18 months ago, and fears were raised once again when she broke down with an ankle injury against Ashleigh Barty on Saturday.
That injury prompted her to retire from the match, handing the title to Barty, but Andreescu has reassured fans she is not facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“Thank you to everyone for the messages of support and well wishes; you all are the best fans in the world,” Andreescu wrote on Instagram.
“I’m relieved to say that there is no serious injury, and with some rest and preparation, I will be back very soon.

“This does mean that, unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in the Billie Jean Cup.
“I love representing Canada, so this decision was not easy, but I’m prepared for the clay-court swing ahead and for the rest of the season.”
