Craig Tiley says Novak Djokovic will always be welcome at the Australian Open and he is 'trying his best' to make it happen.

Djokovic has won the Australian Open more times than any other man in history but he was denied the chance to play at all this year due to a row over his vaccination status.

That saw him deported by the Australian government just hours before the tournament began, and a three-year ineligibility from getting a visa is applied to such an order automatically.

Whether that will be overturned or not it a matter for the Australian government, but tournament director Craig Tiley says he is doing all he can to help Djokovic.

Asked by SportKlub if he was hopeful of Novak Djokovic playing the Australian Open next year, Craig Tiley said: "I think we are doing our best.

"Clearly, it's not my decision whether he will be able to play at the Australian Open, but Novak is always welcome, he knows that many people in Australia like to watch him play.

"It is up to others to make a decision, but there is still a lot of time before the Australian Open next year. [For now] I think everyone should now enjoy his victory at Wimbledon."

There was certainly a lot to enjoy about Djokovic's victory at Wimbledon too.

The Serbian was the outstanding player from the very first round and produced some granite tennis to neutralise the power of Nick Kyrgios in the final.

Tiley was watching from Australia, and he was as wowed as anyone by the level that Djokovic was able to reach.

"Novak played outstandingly and absolutely deserved to win," Tiley said. "He played fantastic, I'm happy for him and his team.

"It was a difficult year, but he is practically invincible on Centre Court. Now I congratulate them on an incredible two weeks. Novak did an excellent job."
