Daniil Medvedev says Novak Djokovic managing to win with a possible torn abdominal muscle 'is why he's amazing.'
Djokovic was able to rally against Taylor Fritz on Friday to win a deciding set despite him clearly experiencing a lot of pain on court in the third and fourth sets.
And Medvedev, who moved into the fourth round himself Saturday, believes it says everything anyone needs to know about Djokovic.
“I definitely saw that he was in pain,” Medvedev.
“So I was surprised when I saw him winning. That’s why he has 17 Grand Slams. That’s why he’s amazing."
Stefanos Tsitsipas, meanwhile, said he didn't actually watch the match, so he didn't feel able to comment on Djokovic's injury status.
“I didn’t watch the match. I think it was too late,” Tsitsipas said.
“Bedtime for me. I hear he played really well in the fifth. I don’t have much more information.
"I heard he was kind of injured. I’m not even sure. It happens to everyone. I don’t know if he is actually injured.”
Djokovic said after his match that he does not yet know whether he will be able to play his fourth round match against Milos Raonic.
