Novak Djokovic kindness hailed as ‘special’ by Sofia Kenin following Australian Open advice

Sofia Kenin has branded the kindness of Novak Djokovic ‘special’ after revealing he helped her win the Australian Open last year.

Kenin is preparing for the defence of her maiden Grand Slam title next month, and she says she may seek the Serbian’s guidance again following a chance encounter 12 months ago.

The American was largely unfancied before the tournament, but has seen her career go from strength to strength making a second Grand Slam final appearance at the French Open in October.

She, though, says it might have been slightly different had it not been for some words from Novak Djokovic.

“I definitely think I can talk to Novak,” Kenin told reporters at the Abu Dhabi Open.

“I think that (seeking his advice again) will be helpful since we are both defending champions.

“He did give me great advice ahead of the final [last year] since we were practising next to each other.

“He came up to me and he was really nice about it and told me some things before the final which was special because I was crazy nervous.

“He told me some things which I will not disclose since I would rather keep it a secret.”
