Novak Djokovic has paid tribute to Rafael Nadal after the Spaniard won a record 21st major at the Australian Open.
Djokovic was tied with Nadal on 20, along with Roger Federer, but he was not able to fight for the title himself after being deported from Australia due to a row over Covid-19 vaccinations.
Rafael Nadal took full advantage by defeating Daniil Medvedev in a brilliant final, and it has quickly been acknowledged by Djokovic, who also hailed all four finalists in the tournament.
“There has been some outstanding tennis played at this year’s Australian Open and the finals were exceptional.
“Congratulations to Ash Barty for an amazing performance in front of her home crowd and to Danielle Collins for an incredible tournament.
