‘Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic find the cracks in your game,’ explains Diego Schwartzman

Diego Schwartzman says it is next to impossible to get on top of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic during matches even if you are playing well.

Schwartzman has definitely had a breakthrough year in 2020, reaching the semi-finals of the French Open and the final of the Rome Masters.

He will also make his debut at the ATP Finals next week after achieving a career-high ranking on nine this year.

However, he insists facing the top players never gets easier no matter what you do.

“Against Rafa and Djokovic you have to play one hundred percent the whole game,” Schwartzman told La Nacion.

“But as soon as you are on top they find a crack and get out of the problem that you created for them.”

It has taken Schwartzman over ten years on the ATP Tour to crack the top ten, and he says he still cannot produce anything less than his best if he wants to compete with them.

“I have to be one hundred percent to beat the Top Ten. If you are not like this it is very difficult to compete with them.

“If you put them in a bit of trouble in the game, one hundred percent it does not always remain that way, but you have to be neat and keep playing well.”
