‘Novak Djokovic doesn’t want to waste energy on Nick Kyrgios,’ says Mats Wilander

Nick Kyrgios is ‘enjoying’ his to-and-fro with Novak Djokovic, but the world number one just wants it over with, says Mats Wilander.

Kyrgios has been a constant critic of Djokovic, often using social media and podcasts to target him.

Djokovic has generally stayed out of it, and he said this week that he has ‘absolutely no interest’ in the Australian, and he doesn’t deserve any more of his time.

And, according to Eurosport expert Wilander, it has always been something of a one-way argument and it’s one that Djokovic wants rid of.

“I think Novak is trying to end it because I don’t think he is enjoying it,” Wilander said during Eurosport’s coverage of the Australian Open.

“He is trying to win his ninth Australian Open, he’s in the chase to be the greatest player of all time.

“He doesn’t have time and he doesn’t want to waste energy. On the other hand, I think you see Nick Kyrgios quite enjoying it.

“I also think it’s a little bit of a different generation and social media has become a huge part of it. It seems Nick is enjoying it, and Novak wants an end.”
