Paris Masters: Novak Djokovic to return; Andy Murray finally gets kind opener

Novak Djokovic will make his return to the ATP Tour against either Marton Fucsovics or Fabio Fognini at the Paris Masters.

Djokovic has not played since losing the US Open final to Daniil Medvedev, a defeat that cost him what would have been a historic calendar Grand Slam.

Gael Monfils is a possible third round opponent for Djokovic, with Andrey Rublev or Cameron Norrie likely awaiting in the quarter-finals.

Third-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is also in Djokovic’s half of the draw and is a potential semi-final opponent.

The same can be said for Andy Murray who, after a nightmare run of tough draws, will be happy to have been paired with a lucky loser or qualifier in the first round.

Felix Auger-Aliassime is a potential second-round opponent for him, with Hubert Hurkacz a possibility for the third round.

Daniil Medvedev headlines the bottom half of the draw, and he will play either Ilya Ivashka or Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round.

Compatriot Aslan Karatsev could await him in the third round, and in-form Jannik Sinner could stand in his way at the quarterfinal stage.

Alexander Zverev is in the remaining quarter, along with the likes of Casper Ruud, Diego Schwartzman, Frances Tiafoe, and Grigor Dimitrov.

The Paris Masters is due to begin on November 1.
