Rafael Nadal: ‘I never expected to achieve even half of what I have’

Rafael Nadal says he could not have possibly expected to achieve anything like the amount he has been able to in tennis.

Nadal has already won enough to be considered one of the most successful tennis players of all time.

No man has won more Grand Slam singles titles as Nadal, and only Novak Djokovic currently has more Masters crowns.

He is also one of only a handful of players to have won over 1000 matches on the ATP Tour.

However, despite having his talent recognised at a very young age and winning professional matches at just 15-years-old, he says success was never expected.

“It would be very arrogant of me to say I am achieving what I expected when I was 16,” Nadal told Celebrity Magazine.

“At that age, I only wanted to be a professional tennis player and to win one tournament someday.

“My dream was to win Wimbledon, and I managed to do that for the first time in 2008.

“A lot has happened good, results wise, since that first interview when I was 16, and I have to say I am very thankful to life.

“I never expected to achieve even half of what I achieved.”
