Rafael Nadal on verge of joining highly exclusive club as he chases historic win at Paris Masters

Rafael Nadal after winning Roland Garros

Rafael Nadal is on the verge of joining a hugely exclusive club if he can win just one match at the Paris Masters this week.

Nadal has been no stranger to claiming pieces of history of late.

In October he won a record 13th Roland Garros title, which was also a record equalling 20th Grand Slam crown.

He also surpassed Jimmy Connors for the most consecutive weeks spent in the world's top ten - a record that had stood for 32 years.

Nadal is now just one win away from becoming only the fourth man to ever win 1,000 matches on the ATP Tour.

Jimmy Connors - 1274
Roger Federer - 1242
Ivan Lendl - 1068
Guilermo Vilas - 951
Novak Djokovic - 930
