Ivan Lendl says Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal are still the favourites in any Grand Slam, but the next dominant star may already be emerging.
What the future holds after the 'Big Three' retire has long been a discussion point among fans and media.
The younger generation at the moment looks more packed with talent than ever before, with Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev already looking close to a major breakthrough.
Behind them, Italian duo Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti have really caught the eye.
Lendl, who won eight Grand Slams, thinks someone is destined to be tennis next dominant player, but not for a while.
“Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer are still the favourites in any Grand Slam they play.
"Whenever that changes, it will be interesting how these young players will perform”.
One player Lendl doesn't appear to be backing right now, though, is Alexander Zverev.
“I don’t really know, I think he (Zverev) clearly has some weaknesses in his game," Lendl told the Holding Court podcast when asked who will be tennis's next dominant star. "He needs to improve”.
“We don’t know what is going to happen now, is this generation going to take over in three to four years when Roger, Rafa, and Novak are done or somebody younger is going to come up there and just dominate.
“We know they have won at certain levels, we know they have won the level below, but until they get into the crunch in a major final we really do not know what’s in there.
"We have seen that to some extent this year at the US Open."
