‘Rafael Nadal scares you, Roger Federer makes you feel stupid,’ says Diego Schwartzman

Diego Schwartzman says Rafael Nadal scares you, while Roger Federer is able to make you ‘feel stupid’ on a tennis court.

Schwartzman is no stranger to battles with Nadal and Federer, although he has only managed one win against either of them in 15 attempts.

And he has been offering some insight into what it is like to face them from the other side of the net.

“You see [Rafael Nadal] train and it scares you,” Schwartzman told ESPN.

“Because of how hard he hits the ball, it bends your racquet. He always wants to be better, he will dominate at the French Open for two more years.

“With Roger Federer you are at the mercy of whether he wins or loses the points.

“If Federer is inspired he makes you feel stupid, he doesn’t let you do anything.

“He has charisma, class, education, goes anywhere and greets everyone.”

Federer and Nadal, along with Novak Djokovic, have dominated tennis for well over a decade now, and that is down to one very special quality they all share, says Schwartzman.

“Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have many things but the most important thing is that they always want to be better.

“[Even] today they continue to learn. You see them train and make others better.”
