Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has named Roger Federer as her favourite player to watch, saying his game is 'amazing.'

Rybakina shocked everyone when she won the Wimbledon title last week, beating Ons Jabeur on the Centre Court - the scene of so much of Federer's success.

Asked who her favourite player to watch and biggest inspiration is, Rybakina said: "I've always liked how Roger Federer is playing. Just his game is amazing.

"I just enjoy watching the matches no matter who plays and, yeah, it's just a joy to watch any match especially when it's great fights."

Elena Rybakina may soon get to enjoy watching Roger Federer play tennis again soon, with his return now just a couple of months away.

Federer is scheduled to play at the Laver Cup in September, and he hopes that is just the start of his comeback.

“I haven’t planned more than the Laver Cup and Basel yet,” Roger Federer told tagesanzeiger last month.

“After Basel, the season is over anyway. It’s important for me to get fit again so that I can train fully. Once I’ve done that, I can choose how many tournaments I play and where.

“The Laver Cup is a good start, I don’t have to play five matches in six days.

“I will have to be able to do that in Basel. That’s why I have to prepare for it in practice. I’m curious myself what’s still to come. But I’m hopeful, I’ve come a long way. I’m not far away. The next three or four months will be extremely important.”

As things stand, Roger Federer has not played for more than a year meaning that he has fallen out of the ATP rankings altogether for the first time in 25 years.
