'My dream is to be like Roger Federer,' says world's top junior as he sets out to make his mark

Holger Rune, the world's top ranked junior player, has set his sights on emulating his 'greatest idol' Roger Federer.

Rune was born just weeks before Federer won his first Grand Slam title, and the Swiss star has been a hero of the Dane's as he fell in love with tennis.

The 17-year-old is currently ranked just outside the top 400 in the world, but he is taking his first steps onto the ATP Tour with hefty ambitions.

"My dreams are to win several Grand Slams, reach world number one and be like Roger Federer," Rune told Ole. "He is my greatest idol and my favourite player.

"He's an excellent player and he's also a great person off the court.

"I had the opportunity to train with him, chat after training and it was a great experience that I will not forget."

Rune is already making strides into the professional game, and he has made his ATP Tour main draw debut at at the Argentina Open this week.

"The idea is to qualify for the main draw of the French Open and I think I have a great opportunity to score points to get closer to the goal of qualifying," Rune said.

"Then by the end of the year I would like to get into the top 100. It's a big step, but I think I can do it."
