Roger Federer wins 'without showing effort' despite working just as hard - or harder - than anyone else, says Richard Gasquet.

Gasquet has been playing on the ATP Tour for 18 years, so is well positioned to assess Federer and his rivals who have dominated tennis for nearly two decades.

And he says the biggest thing he has observed during that time has been the sheer work they have put in.

"With Roger Federer, you couldn't really say that his backhand was great when he was younger, but now he just doesn't miss with it," Gasquet said.

"We keep saying he has a less physical game but he plays the same sport, with the same effort, he just doesn't show it."

The longevity of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic has been largely unprecedented in tennis.

Gasquet, though, says that is down to mental factors, not physical.

"What impresses me the most with the best players is that they manage to keep their motivation, every tournament and every week," he added.

"They are better at tennis at 33, 34 years of age than they were at 20."
