Roger Federer has hailed his rivalry with Novak Djokovic, saying they have both got the best from each other over the years.

Federer and Djokovic, along with Rafael Nadal, have dominated tennis for over a decade.

That means their rivalries with each other have provided the backdrop for some of the greatest moments in modern tennis, and it's something for which Federer is immensely grateful.

“Novak, obviously he can play on all the surfaces extremely well,” Federer told the ATP, as quoted by Tennishead.

“He always brings a certain level of play, which is extremely high, so to beat him you have to be at your best.

“He’s a great mover, and I have great coordination, so we match up well against each other.”

Djokovic is a rarity in being a player who has a positive career head-to-head over Federer.

However, Federer is more than happy that he has had him as a rival.

“I think actually rivalries are super important in sports, I think it also makes the game more popular,” Federer said.

“I think you always need somebody who you can have a good rivalry with.

"With me… and with Djokovic, thank god I had [the rivalry]… I think we get the best out of one another.”
