Simona Halep says she does not believe Serena Williams is on the verge of retirement, despite her Australian Open tears.
Williams was very emotional after her semi-final defeat to Naomi Osaka in Melbourne, leaving the press conference crying when asked what she thought went wrong.
Halep, though, does not believe an imminent retirement was behind that emotion.
“I haven’t had the opportunity to read anything about Serena, but I don’t think she will retire,” Halep told the Romanian press.
It was Williams who knocked Halep out of the Australian Open after the American put in a vintage performance in their quarterfinal clash.
Halep, though, says she has already come to terms with that and is looking forward to the next tournament.
“The upset mood that I had after the match with Serena is over, I'm ok now.
"I'm glad I did a good result, it's not a small result a quarterfinal at a Grand Slam, the first of the year.
“The service did not help me at all in the match against Serena. I had a negative attitude; that didn't help me much either.
"I want to rest for a few days, then I'll see. Normally, Dubai is coming next."
