'I will do everything I can' - Simona Halep suffers US Open injury scare

Simona Halep 2019 Wimbledon champion

Simona Halep may be forced to miss the US Open after suffering tear in her right abductor.

Halep has had a tough time with injuries this year, and has already missed Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the Olympics with a calf injury.

However, she was back playing again, and overcame Magda Linette in her opening match at the Cincinnati Open.

Now though it appears the win has not come without its cost, with the Romanian now sweating on her chances of making it to Flushing Meadows.

“After feeling a sharp pain in my right adductor during the match yesterday, I called the physio and, with heavy taping, was able to carry on and win,” Simona Halep said.

“Unfortunately, a scan this morning showed that I have a small tear in the adductor and, there, it would be too risky for me to play this evening.”

“I will rest up and do everything I can to be ready for the US Open. To the fans in Cincinnati, it was beautiful to see you again.”
