Stan Wawrinka is out of the Australian Open after failing to battle past resilient Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.
Wawrinka, who is a former Australian Open champion, was unable to complete a stunning comeback after coming back from two sets down to force a decider.
He would have perhaps fancied his chances given Fucsovics also played five sets in the first round, but he found a little extra in his legs to win 7-5, 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 7-6.
“Right now, I feel like I’m dying,” Fucsovics said after the match. “I’ve played two five setters and it’s really hot.
“I knew he would come back, he’s very strong mentally and physically. But I was very strong mentally and that was the most important thing.”
Fucsovics will now face 14th-seed Milos Raonic in the Australian Open third round.
What. A. Match. 😱
Fucsovics survives multiple match points for Wawrinka in the fifth set tiebreak to triumph in a classic 👏👏

Elsewhere, Denis Shapovalov brushed aside Bernard Tomic 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 in what would have been a welcome quick match after his five-set marathon against Jannik Sinner in the first round.
There were also straight sets wins for Felix-Auger Aliassime and Diego Schwartzman.
