Stefanos Tsitsipas – ‘This is my best pre-Slam preparation so far’ as he claims Lyon title ahead of Roland Garros

Stefanos Tsitsipas has won his second clay title this year in Lyon and says he is happy with this preparation ahead of Roland Garros.

Tsitsipas beat Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday’s final, just weeks after claiming his first Masters title in Monte-Carlo. He’s also reached the final of two other clay events in Barcelona and Acapulco this season.

It is the seventh career title for the world number five, who says the result is a big confidence boost ahead of the French Open.

“It’s a great result. I love it here,” said Tsitsipas.

“It was a good week for me, played good tennis, played at the top of my game in some of the matches. For sure I can move to the French Open with a little bit more confidence and get to play more matches.”

The Greek will now have a week of training ahead of Roland Garros, where he is the fifth seed, and he believes he has had the best pre-Grand Slam preparation of his career.

“I’ve been feeling my game well; I’ve been using my patterns really well,” Tsitsipas said.

“I’ve been pressing a lot with my serve. Just consistent on court, consistent with my power and the way that I attack and way I [take] risks.

“I think it would be considered my best [preparation] so far pre-Grand Slam and now all the attention is on next week. I love playing in Paris. I find it mesmerising.”
