Rafael Nadal says he is 'happy' to see uncle and former coach return to the ATP Tour as part of Felix Auger-Aliassime's team.
Toni Nadal coached and mentored Rafa for most of his career before taking a step back a few years ago.
He has been tempted back onto the Tour though by Canadian Auger-Aliassime, who he believes has all the attributes needed to be a future world number one.
“Toni has a lot of experience," Rafael Nadal told reporters at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
"He knows a lot about this sport. He has all the knowledge that somebody needs. I am sure that going to be an important help for Felix.”
Toni Nadal has said that he will not coach Auger-Aliassime on the day should he play against Rafael Nadal, but the 20-time Grand Slam champion insists that is not at his request.
“First of all, he doesn’t have to ask me anything, no,” Rafa said. “He’s my uncle.
"I am very grateful for all the things that he did for me. I am happy that he’s on the tour, no?”
“At the same time, I am happy for Felix. I mean, is going to be a good support, have a great coach like Toni next to him.
"[I am] happy for me, too. I am happy to see my uncle here, see him here, spend time with him here on the tour again. That’s a positive thing.”
