Felix Auger-Aliassime has announced Toni Nadal will be joining his coaching set and hopes he can help him reach 'the highest levels of tennis.'
Nadal is most famously known for coaching his nephew – Rafael Nadal – from childhood up until 2017 with great success. Nadal won 16 of his 20 Grand Slam titles while the pair worked together.
Now Auger-Aliassime, currently world 22 at only 20 years old, will be hoping that Nadal will have a similar impact on his development to take him to the next level.
Their partnership will start immediately prior to the Monte-Carlo Masters which begins next week and the young Canadian says he hopes that working with Nadal will ultimately make him a better player.
“Toni will be on the major tournaments, the Grand Slams and a couple of other big tournaments on the calendar," said Auger Aliassime.
“He’s giving advice, experience, but just working on the day-to-day to become a better player.
"It’s not like there is a secret tool or a single recipe where you click your fingers and things work.
“But we are at the start of working together and building something solid and neat – becoming a better player overall. I think that’s what I want to do to reach the highest levels of tennis.”
Meanwhile Nadal says that he knew from an early age that Auger-Aliassime had potential from the first time he saw him play.
“He was 16, but you could already see that he would be one of the best in the world. Now he has to work to confirm it and to become that," said Nadal.
