Serena Williams is in the same half of the Wimbledon draw as world number one Ashleigh Barty.
Despite the withdrawal of reigning champion Simona Halep, the women’s Wimbledon draw is looking stacked, and will make Williams work hard if she is to win her 24th Grand Slam title at SW19 next month.
Williams is in the same quarter as world number three Elina Svitolina, 2018 champion Angelique Kerber, and Coco Gauff.
Barty, meanwhile, will have to negotiate a path that could potentially see Victoria Azarenka and Bianca Andreescu in her way.
As well as Halep, US Open and Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka is missing due to personal reasons, but the second half of the draw is also incredibly strong, underlying the current strength the WTA boasts.

The absences of Halep and Osaka have seen Aryna Sabalenka elevated to second seed and she finds herself in the same quarter as former Grand Slam champions Iga Swiatek and Garbine Muguruza.
Karalina Pliskova and Sofia Kenin headline the remaining section of the draw, with Madison Keys and Petra Kvitova likely providing the sternest tests.
